Steam lists both GunZ: The Duel (the 2026 free-to-play remaster of the 2003 original, by Masangsoft) and GunZ 2: The Second Duel (MAIET’s 2013 sequel). If you searched “gunz” and landed on the wrong store page, here is the actual difference.

Movement: The Deciding Factor

• GunZ: The Duel is the K-Style game. Animation cancels — butterflies, slash shots, wall cancels — create a skill ceiling the community has been climbing for twenty years
• GunZ 2 deliberately streamlined movement into designed abilities and classes. Cleaner for newcomers on paper, but the cancel-based freedom that defined the original is gone — and its competitive scene never matched the first game’s

Population and Momentum in 2026

The remaster launched August 13, 2026 with active official support: launch events through October, Twitch Drops, day-one patching and server expansion. GunZ 2 has had no comparable revival. If you want populated rooms and a living update cadence, the remaster is where the game is happening.
